What Tutoring Is

Our sessions will center on assistance with your child’s school assignments, ranging from homework to essays to presentations, in English Language Arts. The advantage of tutoring lies in your child receiving immediate feedback from a knowledgeable and caring tutor. Gabriel can help your child complete homework, write essays, improve their grades, and boost their confidence!

Understanding ELA Concepts

During our sessions, Gabriel will teach concepts, such as how to craft a thesis statement, analyze why an author uses this or that particular metaphor, and how to write a periodic sentence. Gabriel will dynamically employ multiple approaches to ensure your child genuinely grasps each concept. He is patient and strives to make learning a joyful, fulfilling experience.

Build the Skills to Succeed

  • Depending on a student’s strengths and challenges, we may choose to concentrate our tutoring efforts on developing their reading comprehension skills. I teach what good readers do, and help students see that they too can learn to use the many tools good readers have in their literacy toolbox. Our work can foster confidence in your child’s ability to be an active, independent reader.

  • We can also choose to focus our sessions on building up your child's writing skills, as well as their confidence as a writer. Writing is thinking. Together we can explore how to write for different purposes (to persuade, to educate, to explain, and so on) and in different genres.

  • If your child has been assigned a research paper, I can guide them through each step of the writing, revision, and presentation process. I have taught the research paper to hundreds of students over the years. I bring that expertise as well as the immediate and personalized feedback to our tutoring sessions.

  • Sometimes, good grades has less to do with intelligence or creativity, and more to do with what is called executive functioning skills. I will also aid your child in developing time management, intrinsic motivation, and organizational skills—essential executive functions that sometimes become obstacles to a student's academic success.

Tutor Gabriel has helped hundreds of students find the motivation to do well in school.

When your child connects school, life, and dreams, their motivation to get good grades naturally emerges.
